The traditional role of the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) \u2013 focused on physical infrastructure and secure power delivery \u2013 is rapidly evolving into something new: the role of a Distribution System Operator (DSO), actively coordinating, analysing and managing an increasingly complex and dynamic power system.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The transformation is happening right now, and it changes everything \u2013 from how networks are planned and investments are made, to how data is used, how customers are engaged and decisions are taken.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digpro aims to be a partner on this journey. Becoming a DSO requires new ways of working, new roles \u2013 and a clear plan for how technology and operations interact.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>What does the shift really mean?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving from DNO to DSO means that the network operator:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does more than \u201cjust\u201d deliver electricity \u2013 it also enables flexibility, controllability and interaction with both consumers and producers.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Must understand system impacts from local generation, EV charging, battery storage and demand flexibility \u2013 in real time and over time.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needs to base decisions on forecasts, scenarios and analyses rather than purely reactive operations and historical data.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Must prioritise, coordinate and communicate with more stakeholders &#8211; faster than before.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In short, the DSO role requires a more active and coordinating approach. The transition is stepwise and looks different for every organisation. But regardless of where you start, some common principles apply:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Data first \u2013 but with purpose:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Don\u2019t start with what you can measure, start with what you need to know.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Plan for use, not just installation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Who will use the forecast, dashboard or capacity plan?
