In August 2024, Digpro welcomed Robert Andersson as the new Product Owner and Application Specialist for dpCom. With a background as a university graduate in computer engineering and over 14 years of experience, primarily in the telecommunications industry, he is well-equipped to take on his new role. Robert has previously worked with various telecom solutions and has a strong technical understanding, which will serve him well in his new position at Digpro.
Turf – more than just a game
Outside of his professional life, Robert has a keen interest in Turf, a mobile game that combines GPS technology and competitive spirit. In Turf, the goal is to take over and maintain control of virtual zones mapped on a satellite map. The game, launched in 2010 by the Swedish company Andrimon AB, has become a global phenomenon with monthly rounds and competitions. Robert has been playing Turf since 2013, and for him, the competitive aspect is a major part of the appeal.
Silver success in the Turf World Championship – two years in a row
In early September 2024, Robert competed in Bonanza, Turf’s annual world championship, which was held in Enköping. A Bonanza consists of two competitions, one on foot and one by bike. Robert participated in the foot competition along with 270 other participants, all striving to conquer as many of the 324 zones as possible within two hours. Robert successfully defended his second-place finish from last year – an impressive feat, especially given the fierce competition for the podium spots. Bonanza is an intense competition where both speed and strategy play crucial roles, and Robert prepared for a few weeks leading up to the event by visiting the competition city and training with interval runs to boost his endurance and speed.
“You need to be able to both run and think for two hours, so it’s important to be physically and mentally prepared,” says Robert, adding, “A Turf competition naturally involves physicality, but also a lot of strategy and a bit of luck, which is why all participants compete on equal terms.” But for him, Turf is not just about the competitive aspect – it’s also a social game that attracts people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Turf Community and the Future
In addition to his success in competitions, Robert is also active in the Turf community. He is a board member of the association Turf Stockholms Län, also known as Turf08, and is involved in promoting interest in the game. His commitment and passion for Turf have made him an important part of both the community and the company culture at Digpro, where many employees share his interest in the game.
The next major Turf competition, Bonanza 2025, will take place in June in Edinburgh, giving Robert a new opportunity to showcase his skills and potentially climb the podium once again.
